Build your own outdoor pull up and dip station for under £190

home made pull up and dip station

The one pictured above and detailed below was built back in March 2020 when all the UK gyms were first shut down.

but whether we're in or out of lockdown this is a very worthwhile investment.

Watch the video below for step by step instructions. For convenience sake we'll put the list of what you need below.

Pull up and dip station parts you need:

- 2 x galvanised steel pipes (35mm diameter, 2.5m length) - I got mine here.

- 4 x galvanised steel pipes (35mm diameter, 1.5m length) - I got mine here.

- 3 x galvanised steel pipes (35mm diameter, 1m length) - I got mine here.

- 5 x right angle elbow key clamp joints (35mm diameter) - I got mine here.

- 1 x T bar key clamp joint (35mm diameter) - I got mine here.

- 1 x 45 degree angle key clamp joint (35mm diameter) - I got mine here.

- 1 x stand/foot key clamp joint (35mm diameter) - I got mine here.

- Alan key compatible with key clamp joints (35mm diameter) - I got mine here.

All together the above costs around £185, although you may be able to get it even cheaper by buying locally.

To build the above, you will need:

- 7 x bags of post cement mix (25kg bags) I got mine here.

- 8 x engineering bricks 0.49 I got mine here.

- tape measure 4.99 I got mine here.

- spirit level 2.99 I got mine here.

- post hole digger 20 I got mine here.

- large bucket

- marker pen

If you don't have any of the materials above, they will cost around £65 in total, again maybe cheaper if purchased in store or locally.

Using the above materials and method, this pull up and dip station takes only a couple hours to build, and only a few more hours to dry sufficiently for use.

If you want your pull up bars higher than 2m, or if you weigh above 90kg, I'd suggest replacing all the 35mm key clamps and steel pipes with 42mm diameter.

If you've used our guide, send us photos of your station for a chance to get a free Dragon Elixir and Royal Wauter.
